About the Journal
The Letters on Interdisciplinarity invite reflection and dialogue across disciplinary boundaries. Their aim is the same as that of the Andrea von Braun Foundation: mutual inspiration and exchange between all areas of the humanities, natural sciences, engineering, social sciences, art, crafts, traditional knowledge, and other skills, as well as the development and implementation of new, interdisciplinary methods. It is guided by the conviction that the most important and interesting developments take place at the margins of fields of knowledge or between them. Enabling these developments and making them tangible is the primary goal of the foundation.
In terms of content, the journal is based on the publication of so-called learning papers. These are field reports, the preparation of which is one of the funding conditions of the Andrea von Braun Foundation. After completion of a funded project, these papers specifically evaluate and present its interdisciplinary aspects. Until the end of 2025, the learning papers were grouped together under broad themes and published every six months as an issue of the journal Briefe zur Interdisziplinarität (Letters on Interdisciplinarity). From 2026 onwards, the learning papers will be published continuously online only. With both formats, the foundation aims to make the specific interdisciplinary experiences of the foundation's scholarship holders available to relevant organizations and interested individuals.
